MoveMembers wins on transparent pricing, setup speed, and LINE and WhatsApp messaging, while Mindbody keeps the edge with its large consumer discovery marketplace.

Free forever · No credit card · No sales call

The short answer

MoveMembers is the better value for most independent gyms

For most independent gyms, boutique studios, CrossFit boxes, and martial-arts gyms, MoveMembers is the better value. You get transparent Free, Pro, and Max pricing you can pick without a sales call, setup in an afternoon, and built-in LINE and WhatsApp. Mindbody still wins if its consumer marketplace of 3.7M+ monthly users is central to how you find new clients.

By size

Which one fits a gym your size

Under 25 members
Free tier

MoveMembers, without hesitation. The free tier covers the whole week, and Mindbody has no free plan: the comparison is between nothing and a subscription.

25 to 100 members
Pro tier

MoveMembers in most cases. Ninety-nine dollars against a per-location quote, plus LINE and an interface your staff can read. Mindbody earns the difference only if its consumer app already brings you clients.

Above 100 members
Max tier

It depends on where your members come from. At this size the Mindbody marketplace and its integration ecosystem start to earn their price. MoveMembers stays flat at $199 with several locations included, and takes no commission.

Which should you choose?

Choose MoveMembers if

You are an independent, single-location gym, boutique studio, CrossFit box, or martial-arts gym that wants to see and pick a price without a sales call, start free, go live in an afternoon, and message members on LINE or WhatsApp. It is a strong fit for Thailand and SE Asia and for combat-sports gyms Mindbody does not specialize in.

Stay on Mindbody if

You rely on its consumer marketplace (3.7M+ users) to discover new clients, run a large multi-location or franchise operation with the budget and staff for onboarding, or need its deep US-centric integration ecosystem. That discovery network is a real strength MoveMembers does not match today.

The real bill

What it costs over a year

Take a single-room gym with sixty active members that collects two hundred thousand baht a month. On MoveMembers it pays Pro: {proThb} baht a month, or ten months of that if billed annually, plus Stripe processing on whatever share of that revenue arrives by card. Nothing else.

On a per-location quote-only platform, the same gym cannot do this arithmetic before a sales call, and that is the point of the comparison rather than a rhetorical flourish. What it can price is the commission: if a fifth of its new members arrive through the consumer app, a 20% cut on their first purchase is a real line, and it grows with the channel rather than shrinking.

Before you sign

Five questions to put to them in writing

A demo answers what the software does. These answer what it will cost you and what happens if you leave, which is what you cannot undo.

  • What is the monthly price for my number of locations, in writing?
  • Is the commission charged on the first purchase only, or on every renewal?
  • What happens to the price at renewal, and by how much can it rise?
  • Can I export members, memberships and attendance, and in what format?
  • How long does onboarding take before I can run a real class?
Straight answer

What MoveMembers does not do

  • No consumer marketplace. Nobody discovers your gym through a MoveMembers app, because there is no MoveMembers app for members to browse.
  • No native iOS or Android app. The member space is a web page that adds to a home screen, which is what people do with it, and we would rather say so than call it an app.
  • A smaller review base. Mindbody has thousands of public ratings; we have a handful, and no amount of design changes that.
  • No per-room staff restriction. Permissions are set by role across the whole account, so a receptionist who should only touch one location is not something we do today.

The first of those is the one that matters, and it is worth being blunt about the arithmetic. If a fifth of your new members today arrive through the Mindbody app, moving to a platform without one means finding those people another way. That is a marketing problem you would be taking on, and no feature comparison makes it disappear.

If, on the other hand, your members come from walking past the door, from a friend who trains with you, or from a LINE message, then you are paying for a discovery channel you do not use, and the rest of this page applies.

Origins

Who each product was built for

Mindbody was built for a market where members download apps, pay by card, read English, and search a marketplace to find a class near them. Inside that market it is a strong product with fifteen years of work behind it, and the criticism it takes on price is the criticism a mature platform takes when it has to fund a consumer app as well as a business one.

MoveMembers was built with gyms in Bangkok, where members book on LINE, pay with a QR code, and speak Thai to the person at the desk. That is not a smaller version of the same market, it is a different one: the app nobody installs, the card nobody uses, and the English interface the coach cannot read are three separate reasons a good product fails there.

This matters more than a feature list because it explains the gaps in both directions. The things Mindbody does that we do not are the things its market needs. The things we do that it does not are the things ours needs. Pick the one whose market is yours, and the comparison table stops being a scoreboard.

FAQ

Mindbody vs MoveMembers, answered.

Yes for most independents. MoveMembers starts with a genuine free plan and publishes its Pro and Max prices, while Mindbody bills per location from $99/mo with most tiers quote-only (third parties estimate $259 to $699+). MoveMembers also adds no ~20% marketplace commission on your bookings.

Yes. You can import your members, memberships, and class schedule from a CSV export, and the MoveMembers team helps you map and check the data before go-live. Most independent gyms are set up in an afternoon rather than the weeks Mindbody onboarding can take.

Yes. MoveMembers includes a member portal with self-serve online booking, plus built-in LINE, WhatsApp, email, and SMS. It does not run a consumer discovery marketplace like Mindbody's app, so it is not a lead-generation channel, but you keep 100% of the members you already have.

MoveMembers, in most cases. It was built with martial-arts gyms and includes multi-grade and belt tracking across disciplines, which Mindbody does not specialize in. It is also cheaper to start and far quicker to set up for a single-location fight gym.

Mindbody wins if you rely on its consumer marketplace (3.7M+ monthly users) to find new clients, run a large multi-location or franchise business with budget for onboarding, or need its US-centric integration ecosystem. That discovery network is a real strength MoveMembers does not match.

Not with MoveMembers: Free, Pro and Max are published, in four currencies, and you can create an account without speaking to anyone. Mindbody publishes a starting figure and quotes the rest, so the price you will actually pay depends on a conversation.

You export it and go. Members, memberships and attendance come out in CSV, there is no minimum term on self-serve plans, and nothing is held back to make leaving harder. Ask any platform this question before you sign, ours included, and ask for the answer in writing.

Not on self-serve plans: they are month to month and you can cancel anytime. Annual billing is optional and simply gives you two months free. A venue that asks for a written annual agreement follows that agreement, which prevails on plan, price, term and payment schedule.
